Getting to Surabaya
By Air
Juanda International Airport (SUB) is the main gateway to Surabaya, located approximately 17 km south of the ITS campus in Sidoarjo. Direct international flights connect Juanda to Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Jakarta (CGK), Denpasar (DPS), Hong Kong (HKG), and several Chinese cities. Domestic carriers — Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Lion Air, Batik Air, and AirAsia Indonesia — serve all major Indonesian cities multiple times daily.
From Juanda Airport to ITS Sukolilo
- Taxi (Bluebird/Express): ~35–45 minutes, IDR 150,000–200,000 (metered)
- Grab / Gojek: 30–45 minutes, IDR 80,000–130,000
- DAMRI Airport Bus: to Bungurasih terminal then local transport to ITS — budget option, 60–90 minutes total
- Pre-arranged shuttle: the organising committee can arrange shared shuttle pickups for accepted-paper authors — contact the secretariat by 1 November 2023
By Train
Surabaya is served by two main stations: Surabaya Gubeng (central, 10 km from ITS) and Surabaya Pasarturi (north, 14 km from ITS). Daily trains connect Surabaya to Jakarta (Argo Bromo Anggrek, 9 hours), Yogyakarta (Argo Wilis, 5 hours), Bandung (Mutiara Selatan, 10 hours), and Malang (Penataran, 2 hours). Tickets through the KAI Access app or kai.id.
Accommodation
Surabaya offers a wide range of accommodation. We recommend hotels within 5 km of the ITS campus or in the city centre with reliable transport to Sukolilo. Block bookings have been arranged at the following hotels — quote "AISINDO Symposium 2023" at booking for the conference rate, available until 1 November 2023.
On Arrival
On-site registration takes place in the lobby of the IS Building from 07:30 WIB on Wednesday, 15 November 2023. Please bring photo identification and your registration confirmation. Conference packs (badge, programme booklet, welcome bag with a small oleh-oleh from East Java) will be distributed at the registration desk.

Visa
Most ASEAN nationals enter visa-free for up to 30 days. Visitors from many other countries (including Australia, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and the USA) can obtain a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Juanda International Airport for IDR 500,000, valid 30 days and extendable once. Authors from countries requiring a pre-arrival visa should request an invitation letter from the secretariat at least six weeks before the symposium.
Currency & Payments
ATMs are widely available on and near the ITS campus. Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted at most mid-range and upmarket hotels and restaurants. Smaller eateries and warung typically take cash or QRIS (Indonesia's national QR payment standard).
Connectivity
ITS provides complimentary Wi-Fi (AISINDO-2023 SSID) throughout the IS Building during the symposium. Local SIM cards (Telkomsel, Indosat, XL) with generous data allowances are available at Juanda Airport and in the city — eSIM activations also work in most modern phones.
Surabaya — What to See
If you have time before or after the symposium, Surabaya rewards exploration:
- House of Sampoerna — a colonial-era museum-cum-cigarette-factory in the old town, with excellent free guided tours
- Heroes Monument (Tugu Pahlawan) — commemorates the 10 November 1945 Battle of Surabaya, after which ITS is named
- Suramadu Bridge — the 5.4 km bridge across the Madura Strait, with views of Madura island
- Kya-Kya Kembang Jepun — Chinatown food street, alive in the evenings
- Day trip to Bromo — the iconic volcanic caldera of East Java, 3–4 hours by road
